Apologies, Blog Followers, for my tardiness in updating you on the works progress. But now that I'm back writing for you; it is indeed a beautiful day! Yesterday the sun was shining, and we were told that the glass conservators wanted to start re-installing the Teacher Memorial Window. So------start they did! Today the first lancet was replaced . Already, despite the dreich day, what light there was, hinted at the promise of the re-emergence of the full beauty of the Window. And there's more------------- A copy of the original Order of Service and Address which was used in the original Dedication in 1917 has come to light. So yet more excitement!

I think, for now, I'll let the beauty of this piece of window speak for itself.

There is a song which mentions 'on the wings of a dove', and the Dove is a symbol which has been used in Christianity for thousands of years. Amongst other things, it can represent for us, the Holy Spirit. An Artist can depict this imagery in so many ways; and just every so often, powerful art can reduce you to tears. In the Teacher Memorial Window there is such a Dove. The very glass itself, from which it was created was so obviously chosen for its shape and substance, we hadn't realised until now; that this Dove is 3-dimensional and that it seems to live and breath within the window. It is so high up and in such a very large window, that the Artist must have known that only a few people would see it in all of its glorious detail. So this is it; 2009! A year plus a day, from when the great storm damaged our roof. I now know that we can hope for the Memorial window to be re-installed by the end of this month. The Stone Masons will be back in next week finishing off the stone repairs and, next week the Fabric Team will inspect the Window (in close-up at the Studio) prior to its return. An event which we are all looking forward to. Our visitors are still coming; some to see how the repairs are going and some just to find a quiet moment with God. Whatever their reason all are welcome in this place. I've tried to keep this Blog fairly upbeat and factual throughout, and also to illustrate it with appropriate pictures. Since the New Year I've been fortunate enough to be very busy at work and so I haven't been out and about with my camera, therefore I went back into the files for inspiration and discovered that I had actually taken quite a few photos of the Teacher Memorial Window on this very day last year....

As the old year comes to a close; People's thoughts are often turned to what has happened in the past year. For many it can be a time of sadness and reflection, and for others it's a time to look forward--- to many new things. It does seem hard to believe that we are only 8 days away from the anniversary of the Great Storm which damaged our High Roof and much has been lost to us over this past year. However; in many ways we have been most fortunate, we have been tested in various ways, we have found a new fellowship and we still have a vibrant congregation who care about each other and the place in which we live, work and worship. The coming year will see changes for many, the effects of the Global Economic Downturn is never far from the front pages of the Newspapers, we can only hope and pray that those who may suffer from this will know that we at KH care for them. Well that's Christmas done for this year! Unfortunately we didn't manage to have our traditional Candlelit Carol Service this year-----but next year is another matter! We ran out of chairs for those attending the Watchnight Service on Christmas Eve and I wonder if the Carol Singers at the Entrance Door helped or hindered? Whatever!----we certainly enjoyed a 'Good Sing' as others joined in, singing those long cherished carols, on a very crisp and clear night. We certainly didn't notice the cold, and Christmas Day Communion was busy as well with friends,family, neighbours and visitors all joining in worship of the New Born King. And then on Monday 29th., we had our last wedding of the year when two of our congregation were married on yet another crisp, cold but sunny day. Look who turned up on Saturday? It was the KHYD's Christmas Party on Saturday and their special visitor also popped in to check us out. Apparently the party went very well. It certainly sounded like it. I also know the food was good, because those of us manning Open Church were each given a party box of eats. Much appreciated, (although I still don't like carrots, even if they are cut up into nice batons. But I did like the cheese and jelly bean combo!)
