Another Year Begins

So this is it; 2009!
A year plus a day, from when the great storm damaged our roof.
I now know that we can hope for the Memorial window to be re-installed by the end of this month. The Stone Masons will be back in next week finishing off the stone repairs and, next week the Fabric Team will inspect the Window (in close-up at the Studio) prior to its return. An event which we are all looking forward to. Our visitors are still coming; some to see how the repairs are going and some just to find a quiet moment with God.

Whatever their reason all are welcome in this place.

I've tried to keep this Blog fairly upbeat and factual throughout, and also to illustrate it with appropriate pictures. Since the New Year I've been fortunate enough to be very busy at work and so I haven't been out and about with my camera, therefore I went back into the files for inspiration and discovered that I had actually taken quite a few photos of the Teacher Memorial Window on this very day last year.
So here they are: Justice

and Truth------------

Very appropriate I think.

The snow held off this morning and the Contractors were hopeful of taking down 4 'flights' of scaffold before Christmas. however it was deemed too dangerous for that this morning. 'What about the weather vane?' I asked. 'Well we;ll see how it is the afternoon and we've got a back-up with the Steeplejacks if necessary' said Hunter & Clark. Off I went on errands and on my return driving along Queen Margaret Drive I noticed that the scaffold around Oran Mor had been taken down and then I noticed a 'High -vis' figure on top of our Fleche which clothed in its scaffold looks a bit like a pineapple over the roof tops of Grosvenor Terrace. Once it was safe to do so, I of course took photos of Archie and Craig tackling the re-installation of our very own 'Chanticleer' All this was of course whilst the snow was coming down again. Hard! However the Task was successfully accomplished. Thank You both, very much. It is much appreciated by all of us at ...

Re-Dedication Service

The clean-up team have been in this week! Many thanks to them---they know who they are! The Sanctuary is looking much cleaner and shinier now. Final clean-up on Friday! We are all looking forward to the Service on Saturday which Alastair Cherry will conduct, lots of people have said they are able to come and the weather forecast is favourable. One little word, the Church is still technically a Building Site, So please pay heed to the advice of the Stewards and remain on the permitted side of any roped-off areas. Hard Hats will not be neccessary.

Return from the brink?!

Don't do it! It does seem a little strange, but I think this is the second photo of this very hardworking person "up close and personal" with a window. Although the last time we managed to have the window brought down from on high for her close inspection. Whatever, the gist of all this is; that this particular property owned by the Congregation is now ready for a new tenant. As explained during the 'At-Home Sessions' this will be an extra source of income for the Congregation. A lot of work by a lot of people has gone into achieving this, and cleaning the windows on a glorious Autumn afternoon has been just part of it.
