After the Opening.

Wow!, Open Doors Weekend is over for another year. Thank you, to all those who came in to see what was happening and also to those who didn't realise that we had extra metal-work in place; you were all most kind and said nice things about the building. The weather was kind to us and on Sunday morning especially with the sun rising through the stained windows, I did feel incredibly humbled by the sheer beauty of the legacy left by our forbears. All we've got to do now is to keep a lid on it! literally! Heartfelt thanks have to go to all those who helped to make the event for us such a success, to all those who stewarded upstairs in the Sanctuary, to Dr. Iain Galbraith , our organist who played so beautifully on Saturday. To the Rev. Pat Lang who also popped in to play the organ. To the very capable Catering Team downstairs who fed our visitors Cream Teas. Visitors were also able to purchase Fairtrade goods and many did so--- Thank You all very Much. Mention must also be made of ...

Another Week goes by

Good Morning All, So; today, we at KH are really busy and finalising all the preparations for Open Doors Weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Fairtrade Teas and Coffee downstairs in the hall (also our Fairtrade Stall will be open for business) and the beauty of the Sanctuary upstairs; even though access is limited. The Gallery is open for those who wish to sit for a while and our Organist will be giving 4 short Organ Recitals each day. It is going to be wonderful to hear the 'Father Willis' sounding out again. I will also be giving short talks on the Building and its Conservation, watch for the Notices giving timings! On Sunday there will be Public Worship downstairs in the Hall from 11:00hrs until midday, all are most welcome to join us; during this time the main Church will also be open for quiet contemplation. Thereafter the Hall will have the Fairtrade Refreshments up and running again. I'm looking forward to tommorrow!!!! See you then!

KH Progress Update

Wow! What a week! The powers that be; are getting all in a twist! However the HS/HLF Grant application means that KH had a Site Visit today, Thursday. by a Case Worker appointed to write an assessment on the merit of the Building. Although there are already various reports and photos in existence, I don't think it was fully appreciated until the Scaffold was climbed. just how high up you have to go to reach the ceiling. ---A very long waaaaay!---- The Teacher Memorial Window was also removed this week and is now safely in the Studio of The Stained Glass Partnership, once they have had a good look at the panels Susan and Paul will be able to give a better idea as to when the Window will be replaced in all its glory. I did promise the lads from Denholm who were erecting the extra Scaffold that I would put their pictures on the web. Fame at last!! So hopefully they will recognise themselves on Flickr. Also today, Friday, we took delivery of a new Bentley! An electronic Piano, not t...

The Start.

So here it is; the first post on the new KH Blog. OK! I suppose it was my own fault, when I decided that it might be a good idea to use the Church Website as a means of informing as many people as possible as to the progress of the Building Work at KH. So now that the Webmaster has done the needful, it makes sense to start right away. I do hope it proves a vehicle for all those with an interest in the building, to first of all find out what is going on and also to be able to participate in the Conservation Process.  Many people have no doubt seen the 'Green Garter' around our Fleche on the roof, and have perhaps wondered about the progress of the Roof Repair. Well, rest assured that the work is progressing, perhaps not as fast as we would have liked, but with an 'A' Grade Listed Building and in a Conservation Area as well, these things have to be done properly and needless to say that means it costs a lot of money. Over the last few months the Fabric Team and Kirk Se...
