After the Opening.

Wow!, Open Doors Weekend is over for another year.

Thank you, to all those who came in to see what was happening and also to those who didn't realise that we had extra metal-work in place; you were all most kind and said nice things about the building.

The weather was kind to us and on Sunday morning especially with the sun rising through the stained windows, I did feel incredibly humbled by the sheer beauty of the legacy left by our forbears. All we've got to do now is to keep a lid on it! literally!

Heartfelt thanks have to go to all those who helped to make the event for us such a success, to all those who stewarded upstairs in the Sanctuary, to Dr. Iain Galbraith , our organist who played so beautifully on Saturday. To the Rev. Pat Lang who also popped in to play the organ. To the very capable Catering Team downstairs who fed our visitors Cream Teas. Visitors were also able to purchase Fairtrade goods and many did so--- Thank You all very Much.

Mention must also be made of the team from Hunter & Clark who were able to rig up a temporary ramp for the front steps, because our normal disabled access was out of commission, also to our Architects Page/Park who printed out the big close-ups of the Teacher Memorial Window (now removed for restoration.) So we could all appreciate what is going to come back; hopefully for Christmas! A special present indeed.

I'm sure I may have forgotten someone---- I hope not----- However it is certainly safer not to list everyone!

350 visitors, all ages , all nationalities and one little four-legged visitor, an eight week ball of fluff called Samantha, out on her first public walk following her vaccinations. All, I hope, were made to feel welcome at Kelvinside Hillhead.

The snow held off this morning and the Contractors were hopeful of taking down 4 'flights' of scaffold before Christmas. however it was deemed too dangerous for that this morning. 'What about the weather vane?' I asked. 'Well we;ll see how it is the afternoon and we've got a back-up with the Steeplejacks if necessary' said Hunter & Clark. Off I went on errands and on my return driving along Queen Margaret Drive I noticed that the scaffold around Oran Mor had been taken down and then I noticed a 'High -vis' figure on top of our Fleche which clothed in its scaffold looks a bit like a pineapple over the roof tops of Grosvenor Terrace. Once it was safe to do so, I of course took photos of Archie and Craig tackling the re-installation of our very own 'Chanticleer' All this was of course whilst the snow was coming down again. Hard! However the Task was successfully accomplished. Thank You both, very much. It is much appreciated by all of us at ...

Re-Dedication Service

The clean-up team have been in this week! Many thanks to them---they know who they are! The Sanctuary is looking much cleaner and shinier now. Final clean-up on Friday! We are all looking forward to the Service on Saturday which Alastair Cherry will conduct, lots of people have said they are able to come and the weather forecast is favourable. One little word, the Church is still technically a Building Site, So please pay heed to the advice of the Stewards and remain on the permitted side of any roped-off areas. Hard Hats will not be neccessary.

Return from the brink?!

Don't do it! It does seem a little strange, but I think this is the second photo of this very hardworking person "up close and personal" with a window. Although the last time we managed to have the window brought down from on high for her close inspection. Whatever, the gist of all this is; that this particular property owned by the Congregation is now ready for a new tenant. As explained during the 'At-Home Sessions' this will be an extra source of income for the Congregation. A lot of work by a lot of people has gone into achieving this, and cleaning the windows on a glorious Autumn afternoon has been just part of it.
