Watch Night Approaches!

After the frights of the previous weeks , especially with the weather  and the Fuel Delivery not being able to get anywhere close to us; everything now seems to be settling into an oft practised schedule.

The Nativity performed by the 'wee ones' during Sunday Morning Worship - Exciting again this year, as once more we had a real live Baby Jesus:

The Candlelight Carol Service with all 60 or so of the East Dunbartonshire Concert Band, was the first for our new Organist Willie Murray; and, with our own Choir and a plethora of parents and friends it was a wonderful occasion.

The Band had suffered so many cancellations because of weather that they were really determined that this show would go on and they did indeed play so well.

This Carol Service is always such a lot of work and preparation, and this year we were down on people capable of helping - but - once more it passed off as a Triumph.
When the first lights went out and I heard the appreciative comments from a little group of visitors it did hearten me that it was all so worthwhile, to be able to share the building with many others...




Following on from the Morning Nativity with the 'wee ones', we are now truly on the path to the Stable

    I missed Watchnight, as we always do, but the Christmas Day service was fine. And of course the candlelight carol service – originally a Belmont practice - was splendid, as always.

    Excellent also was the united service for the p.g. in Hyndland on 02/11. Good to see inter alia the adoption of several liturgical practices, used by us in KHPC for many years, in a church which in my opinion has always been a bit underliturgised for a building of its potential. Ainz

A Tidy Mind!

So we hit the deck running this week, First task on Monday Morning was a meeting with the Lead Architect and the Contractors to re-cap where we were when all work was put on hold and also to sort out the tidying up "Our Building Site" The Repair work at KH was originally organised around Church Life, and that will continue, the Congregation and all of the Hall Users will continue to meet in the Hall while the Contractors will carry on working upstairs in the Sanctuary. This is not the normal way of carrying out one of these major projects, I do like to think that perhaps we at KH blazed a trail. I think there is nothing worse than a Community building all wrapped up in scaffold and portacabins while the the Community who use it get lost in the busy-ness of the work. We are all in this together and hopefully we can all compromise as and when neccesary.

Catch-Up!

Abject apologies! Things have been very busy, with all Church Properties-----and the proper job! However, here is the stuff which has been sitting as a draft---- might as well have it---better late than never. 21:49 on 19 September 2009 Well the sun shone (most of the day)- The organ worked! (thank you Iain) and the Violin duets (Wilson & Jane xx) were a joy as well. 207 people came through the doors and all (bar one) were pleased with what they found. A lovely and characterful building with people inside who work very hard to keep it open for all the rest. I do hope our friends in Bellshill tonight have a good music event as well. Malcolm, our architect spoke informatively about the repair work and I know that people will assume that I'll do as well tomorrow. But for tonight--I'm off to bed. Sunday 20th.September ---- Very early before opening, I hoovered up all the leaves; this morning the Church Service was piped through the speaker system and the sun blazed through the ...

August Garden Parties

At KH there has been a tradition of having a Garden Party (or parties!) to allow members and friends to come together at the appropriate time to carry out essential works in the garden grounds. Yesterday was one of those days, and the rain did stop and the sun did come out! Firstly, many thanks to those who turned out and contributed their time and energy, and special thanks to Ann Shill for the yummy sandwiches. Our youngest labourer took great delight in sowing the seeds of the Wildflower Meadow, showing great interest in the different sizes and colours of seed, while Mum raked and prepared the ground! Office-bound workers enjoyed their blisters (I hope) proof of their hard work - and a chance for my new First Aid Kit to be used. And what was very pleasant was being able to actually do a little proper gardening apart from just the hard work of cutting grass and hedges!
