EARTH HOUR 2010

We at KH did our bit! so for ease I replicate the thank-you in full. "I wish to thank you and your entire congregation at Kelvinside and Hillhead Parish Church for your fantastic support for WWF’s Earth Hour 2010 – helping to increase awareness about people and wildlife threatened by climate change. Sign-ups are still being calculated but early indications suggest that a staggering one billion people took part in WWF’s Earth Hour around the world. Over 4,000 cities and towns in a record-breaking 126 countries signed up. Global landmarks which switched off included Edinburgh Castle and the Big Ben; the Eiffel Tower; the Great Pyramids; Sydney Opera House; and the Forbidden City in China. Here in Scotland, this year’s Earth Hour really captured the imagination of the public leading to record numbers pledging to switch off - including 29 of Scotland’s 32 local authorities, over 300 schools and nearly two hundred businesses, public bodies and other organisations. Many of the nation’s ...

Waiting!

Today was the last day on site for some of the last of the Hunter & Clark Joiners. Yesterday was the first day that the roof didn't let in water when it rained. The first day for a very long time. It has certainly been a long time coming. I think the photo shows one of the trickier moments encountered in this last week. The first of the new gutter panels being received on the roof. Essentially the other end of the photo I took from the ground in Observatory Road.

Blue Sky!

Spring!

Oh! What a beautiful Morning! Oh! What a beautiful Day! Blue skies in evidence all this week except for Thursay, when we all got a little rattled. However Success at last! As is evident in the photo of the crocus and the bee, the nitty gritty of life goes on, while above our heads, great things are happening ------ And just to get all of this in perspective, Hazel kindly (bravely)stood beside one of the legs of the big Yellow Crane which finally arrived on Friday morning. With Blue skies all around; It was a very good Day.

Best Laid Plans!

Absolutely Typical! How is it that I am so Law abiding (or rather Blue-Meanie Fearing) that I wouldn't dream of parking anywhere near a spot with "Parking Suspended" Signs and Police Cones? Yet the wonderful commuting public decide that the signs obviously weren't meant for them and that all the clear spaces which were left by residents last night definitely were there just for them. So we try again tomorrow.

A Photo Opportunity!

Time: Thursday 11th.March 2010 All Day. Place: Observatory Road/Grosvenor Crescent, Glasgow Event: The 100 tonne Crane Arrives. It's absolutely typical that the day I have to attend Hospital, is the day that the Big Crane with its 60metre Jib arrives to do its work. For those of you who have been following this project, the Sky Hoist we used to inspect the Roof way back in January 2008 was only 40 metres! What I can't tell you is what colour it's going to be!

The work continues!!!!!!

During this time of Lent we are still waiting for the Gutters to be sorted. Sounds simple ; Doesn't it? However the complexity of the task to be undertaken is such that we require a 'Road Closure' order, so that a crane can be brought in to lift the completed gutter sections up on to the roof. The actual forming of the Gutter will take place down on the ground, so that we don't have 'hot-work' up on the roof. We wait and pray for the weather to be kind to us. Meanwhile along the road we are busy finishing of some extra re-furbishment of the Manse, in readiness for a commercial let, in order to maximise KH's Income stream. Bob and Robert kindly posed for the photographer. Keep up the good work guys!
