Recycling the Flowers;

One of the 'nice', calming jobs which is done each week is arranging the Church Flowers. Even when we were worshipping downstairs in the Hall and Session Room, we always had flowers.

Every Month of the year there is someone responsible for ensuring that there are fresh flowers in Church on Sunday. Every week there is the opportunity for anyone to 'sign-up' to contribute towards the provision of the flowers. For some people it is enough just to give money, but others also like to choose and arrange them personally.

The flowers may be placed in Church in remembrance of someone or something or may just be put there for the sheer joy of seeing God's own creation.

Whatever the reason, they are always special.

Fortunately at KH there is no need to feel that you must be able to 'arrange' flowers in order to make your own statement. There is a varied assortment of vases available for use, and if someone was to feel completely unable to 'do' the flowers they can still provide a bouquet from any of the local florists or even supermarkets which would look good in most of them.

Since returning back upstairs to the Sanctuary, I don't think we have used the same container twice!

Apart from the three depicted here there are also plainer glass and pottery ones available.

All have their own merits.

And of course the flowers themselves are always recycled and taken to those who are either housebound, ill or who just need a token of our love and best wishes.

The snow held off this morning and the Contractors were hopeful of taking down 4 'flights' of scaffold before Christmas. however it was deemed too dangerous for that this morning. 'What about the weather vane?' I asked. 'Well we;ll see how it is the afternoon and we've got a back-up with the Steeplejacks if necessary' said Hunter & Clark. Off I went on errands and on my return driving along Queen Margaret Drive I noticed that the scaffold around Oran Mor had been taken down and then I noticed a 'High -vis' figure on top of our Fleche which clothed in its scaffold looks a bit like a pineapple over the roof tops of Grosvenor Terrace. Once it was safe to do so, I of course took photos of Archie and Craig tackling the re-installation of our very own 'Chanticleer' All this was of course whilst the snow was coming down again. Hard! However the Task was successfully accomplished. Thank You both, very much. It is much appreciated by all of us at ...

Re-Dedication Service

The clean-up team have been in this week! Many thanks to them---they know who they are! The Sanctuary is looking much cleaner and shinier now. Final clean-up on Friday! We are all looking forward to the Service on Saturday which Alastair Cherry will conduct, lots of people have said they are able to come and the weather forecast is favourable. One little word, the Church is still technically a Building Site, So please pay heed to the advice of the Stewards and remain on the permitted side of any roped-off areas. Hard Hats will not be neccessary.

Return from the brink?!

Don't do it! It does seem a little strange, but I think this is the second photo of this very hardworking person "up close and personal" with a window. Although the last time we managed to have the window brought down from on high for her close inspection. Whatever, the gist of all this is; that this particular property owned by the Congregation is now ready for a new tenant. As explained during the 'At-Home Sessions' this will be an extra source of income for the Congregation. A lot of work by a lot of people has gone into achieving this, and cleaning the windows on a glorious Autumn afternoon has been just part of it.
