A Star in the East? Let it Snow!

I wonder how many of you realised why I might have been keeping quiet this week?
It was this week, two years ago that, that great storm damaged the Church Roof. January 8th; tonight to be exact, although two years ago it was a Tuesday night, (See what a Leap Year does!) The weather this week has had an eerie stillness, no great winds for us here, just deepening cold, and clear, clear skies with many twinkling stars. A lot has happened in these two years, life changing for some, certainly different from then, but surely since then, we have realised that, we, the Congregation at KH have a definite vision of our purpose in this place. Not all of us can say quite what it is but we all seem to sense that there is something greater than all of us put together, holding us together. Together in Christ! In this snowy and cold landscape, a healthy dose of togetherness doesn't seem such a bad idea.

So an early start tomorrow for the first event in the Sanctuary in this New Year --the first wedding back in the restored Sanctuary; because of the weather definitely a 'white' wedding! After the last couple of days of busy preparation I should be able to have some time to take photos for posting. So watch out for our very own home-grown Ice Sculpture!

A Tidy Mind!

So we hit the deck running this week, First task on Monday Morning was a meeting with the Lead Architect and the Contractors to re-cap where we were when all work was put on hold and also to sort out the tidying up "Our Building Site" The Repair work at KH was originally organised around Church Life, and that will continue, the Congregation and all of the Hall Users will continue to meet in the Hall while the Contractors will carry on working upstairs in the Sanctuary. This is not the normal way of carrying out one of these major projects, I do like to think that perhaps we at KH blazed a trail. I think there is nothing worse than a Community building all wrapped up in scaffold and portacabins while the the Community who use it get lost in the busy-ness of the work. We are all in this together and hopefully we can all compromise as and when neccesary.

Catch-Up!

Abject apologies! Things have been very busy, with all Church Properties-----and the proper job! However, here is the stuff which has been sitting as a draft---- might as well have it---better late than never. 21:49 on 19 September 2009 Well the sun shone (most of the day)- The organ worked! (thank you Iain) and the Violin duets (Wilson & Jane xx) were a joy as well. 207 people came through the doors and all (bar one) were pleased with what they found. A lovely and characterful building with people inside who work very hard to keep it open for all the rest. I do hope our friends in Bellshill tonight have a good music event as well. Malcolm, our architect spoke informatively about the repair work and I know that people will assume that I'll do as well tomorrow. But for tonight--I'm off to bed. August Garden Parties

At KH there has been a tradition of having a Garden Party (or parties!) to allow members and friends to come together at the appropriate time to carry out essential works in the garden grounds. Yesterday was one of those days, and the rain did stop and the sun did come out! Firstly, many thanks to those who turned out and contributed their time and energy, and special thanks to Ann Shill for the yummy sandwiches. Our youngest labourer took great delight in sowing the seeds of the Wildflower Meadow, showing great interest in the different sizes and colours of seed, while Mum raked and prepared the ground! Office-bound workers enjoyed their blisters (I hope) proof of their hard work - and a chance for my new First Aid Kit to be used. And what was very pleasant was being able to actually do a little proper gardening apart from just the hard work of cutting grass and hedges!
