Carols by Candlelight

All of a sudden, it's really winter! Deep and crisp and even!-----
At least for a little while! The snow and ice did mean that some of the Nativity Performers were unable to reach us; particularly noticable this year; a shortage of shepherds. However having a baby angel as well as baby Jesus did make up for that. There were over 80 people in Church to see the well-loved story told in tableau form.
What is important to note, is that the majority of the people in Church this morning were local enough to have walked there.

The snow continued to harden as evening fell, and a new heavy fall of snow greeted those arriving for Candlelight Carols. East Dunbartonshire Concert Band played for all their worth and their interval rendition of Greensleeves was really much appreciated.
It seems to be traditional now that the Sound System is always non-evident at this performance, despite being overhauled last week.
Problem solved! Someone switched it off!
So that was easily fixed once I realised what had happened. Everything else seemed to work, and we must give thanks that this year we were able to have the doors open so that those seeking solace could come in.

It's always a concern, that, this time of year is especially empotional for some; at the very least we can offer Sanctuary, even in a crowd. Despite the snow and ice, I counted over 350 people in Church last night; Amen.

The snow held off this morning and the Contractors were hopeful of taking down 4 'flights' of scaffold before Christmas. however it was deemed too dangerous for that this morning. 'What about the weather vane?' I asked. 'Well we;ll see how it is the afternoon and we've got a back-up with the Steeplejacks if necessary' said Hunter & Clark. Off I went on errands and on my return driving along Queen Margaret Drive I noticed that the scaffold around Oran Mor had been taken down and then I noticed a 'High -vis' figure on top of our Fleche which clothed in its scaffold looks a bit like a pineapple over the roof tops of Grosvenor Terrace. Once it was safe to do so, I of course took photos of Archie and Craig tackling the re-installation of our very own 'Chanticleer' All this was of course whilst the snow was coming down again. Hard! However the Task was successfully accomplished. Thank You both, very much. It is much appreciated by all of us at ...

Re-Dedication Service

The clean-up team have been in this week! Many thanks to them---they know who they are! The Sanctuary is looking much cleaner and shinier now. Final clean-up on Friday! We are all looking forward to the Service on Saturday which Alastair Cherry will conduct, lots of people have said they are able to come and the weather forecast is favourable. One little word, the Church is still technically a Building Site, So please pay heed to the advice of the Stewards and remain on the permitted side of any roped-off areas. Hard Hats will not be neccessary.

Return from the brink?!

Don't do it! It does seem a little strange, but I think this is the second photo of this very hardworking person "up close and personal" with a window. Although the last time we managed to have the window brought down from on high for her close inspection. Whatever, the gist of all this is; that this particular property owned by the Congregation is now ready for a new tenant. As explained during the 'At-Home Sessions' this will be an extra source of income for the Congregation. A lot of work by a lot of people has gone into achieving this, and cleaning the windows on a glorious Autumn afternoon has been just part of it.
