Almost There!

The lads were very busy scurrying about this week, clearing, sweeping, hoovering, washing, plastering and painting; and replacing pews, I stuck my head through the door, and was amazed at the difference in the place,
then I pointed out that the piano didn't actually live among the pews on the left, but that it lived over on the right. Lots of jaw dropping, but just in time, 6 hefty males moved it back into position.
Job done!

That was earlier in the week, today all the pews were back in place and further cleaning was continuing. The Organ Tuner is now coming in on Wednesday and that gives us at KH time to deal with other fiddly bits. The Sanctuary is now safe for us to move about; still watching out for the odd trip hazard; Lesley washed all the glass vases today ready to go onto the new shelves!? and I spent most of my time making a start on the metalwork polishing.

As many of the workers were finishing today they all received a small gift from us, beautifully wrapped KH Mugs with extra sweets inside------(thank you Hazel and Helen for the wrapping!)

There is still work going on above our heads -- the completion of the Insurance repair on the Fleche, but we can say that the main Contract is over and we have the Sanctuary back and we will hold our first service back upstairs on Sunday 13th December 2009. Between now and then we do have a list of things which we can do in preparation for that day.

We need a list, so that we don't repeat ourselves and redo any one task. I will be publishing it this Sunday.

The snow held off this morning and the Contractors were hopeful of taking down 4 'flights' of scaffold before Christmas. however it was deemed too dangerous for that this morning. 'What about the weather vane?' I asked. 'Well we;ll see how it is the afternoon and we've got a back-up with the Steeplejacks if necessary' said Hunter & Clark. Off I went on errands and on my return driving along Queen Margaret Drive I noticed that the scaffold around Oran Mor had been taken down and then I noticed a 'High -vis' figure on top of our Fleche which clothed in its scaffold looks a bit like a pineapple over the roof tops of Grosvenor Terrace. Once it was safe to do so, I of course took photos of Archie and Craig tackling the re-installation of our very own 'Chanticleer' All this was of course whilst the snow was coming down again. Hard! However the Task was successfully accomplished. Thank You both, very much. It is much appreciated by all of us at ...

Re-Dedication Service

The clean-up team have been in this week! Many thanks to them---they know who they are! The Sanctuary is looking much cleaner and shinier now. Final clean-up on Friday! We are all looking forward to the Service on Saturday which Alastair Cherry will conduct, lots of people have said they are able to come and the weather forecast is favourable. One little word, the Church is still technically a Building Site, So please pay heed to the advice of the Stewards and remain on the permitted side of any roped-off areas. Hard Hats will not be neccessary.

Return from the brink?!

Don't do it! It does seem a little strange, but I think this is the second photo of this very hardworking person "up close and personal" with a window. Although the last time we managed to have the window brought down from on high for her close inspection. Whatever, the gist of all this is; that this particular property owned by the Congregation is now ready for a new tenant. As explained during the 'At-Home Sessions' this will be an extra source of income for the Congregation. A lot of work by a lot of people has gone into achieving this, and cleaning the windows on a glorious Autumn afternoon has been just part of it.
