Getting Hotter!

What with Oran Mor erecting a huge amount of metalwork around the tower, and us as well; it seems that at least the Scaffolding Industry in Scotland is flourishing!

No, I don't know what the old Kelvinside Botanics Church is doing, perhaps someone does and can tell us.

I do know what we're doing. The Fleche will lose its, rather fetching green, debris net fairly soon

All the while lots is going on inside the roof space.

Thankfully the Contractors were on hand to deal with the deluge of water which fell on us on Monday night. The last of the old plastic downpipes will now be finally replaced, the one that was left had completely choked and the resultant waterfall into the Church and Hall was swiftly dealt with.

Fortunately the heating engineers arrived on Wednesday to start installing the new heaters in the Hall. Efficient and working! Wonders will never cease!

By yesterday morning the difference in the Hall was amazing ------ (also note the previous colour schemes!)

All I can say is that the old heaters, once dismantled were very sad looking things indeed. Hopefully these new ones will be a bit more substantial.

So heat in the Hall and heat in the Sanctuary, we are very definitely on the home straight.

  1. And it's largely due to you, Fifi. Well done, as ever!

The snow held off this morning and the Contractors were hopeful of taking down 4 'flights' of scaffold before Christmas. however it was deemed too dangerous for that this morning. 'What about the weather vane?' I asked. 'Well we;ll see how it is the afternoon and we've got a back-up with the Steeplejacks if necessary' said Hunter & Clark. Off I went on errands and on my return driving along Queen Margaret Drive I noticed that the scaffold around Oran Mor had been taken down and then I noticed a 'High -vis' figure on top of our Fleche which clothed in its scaffold looks a bit like a pineapple over the roof tops of Grosvenor Terrace. Once it was safe to do so, I of course took photos of Archie and Craig tackling the re-installation of our very own 'Chanticleer' All this was of course whilst the snow was coming down again. Hard! However the Task was successfully accomplished. Thank You both, very much. It is much appreciated by all of us at ...

Re-Dedication Service

The clean-up team have been in this week! Many thanks to them---they know who they are! The Sanctuary is looking much cleaner and shinier now. Final clean-up on Friday! We are all looking forward to the Service on Saturday which Alastair Cherry will conduct, lots of people have said they are able to come and the weather forecast is favourable. One little word, the Church is still technically a Building Site, So please pay heed to the advice of the Stewards and remain on the permitted side of any roped-off areas. Hard Hats will not be neccessary.

Return from the brink?!

Don't do it! It does seem a little strange, but I think this is the second photo of this very hardworking person "up close and personal" with a window. Although the last time we managed to have the window brought down from on high for her close inspection. Whatever, the gist of all this is; that this particular property owned by the Congregation is now ready for a new tenant. As explained during the 'At-Home Sessions' this will be an extra source of income for the Congregation. A lot of work by a lot of people has gone into achieving this, and cleaning the windows on a glorious Autumn afternoon has been just part of it.
