Another week,

Oops!

Sometimes it must seem that I may be trying to rush things, ----Another wet Bank Holiday does concentrate the mind, as to why we are pushing to complete the repair so quickly. However tomorrow is Tuesday and people should be back at work, another short week but hopefully we managed to accomplish a lot before the Friday Frenzy of the Holiday Weekend set in. Essentially, normally the paperwork is completed in the course of about 6 weeks, we tried for 2!! So; OK maybe 3 then? Onwards and Upwards.

We had a visiting Choir from Sweden here on Saturday ---- wonderful sound, even in our Hall , (which does have its own very good acoustic).

As it was a relatively still and calm night we took them up the back stairs to visit the Gallery and of course what do singers do when they get there? Sing of course!

Impromptu performances, and as we had learned earlier, they were typical Swedish Folk Music. but wonderful to hear, and they were impressed with both the space and the sound.


Let's all look forward to a return visit.

    Yes, they were super - and the singing was tops as well! Let's hope they come back and get a full house - in what everyone except JSD is happy to call the sanctuary.

A Tidy Mind!

So we hit the deck running this week, First task on Monday Morning was a meeting with the Lead Architect and the Contractors to re-cap where we were when all work was put on hold and also to sort out the tidying up "Our Building Site" The Repair work at KH was originally organised around Church Life, and that will continue, the Congregation and all of the Hall Users will continue to meet in the Hall while the Contractors will carry on working upstairs in the Sanctuary. This is not the normal way of carrying out one of these major projects, I do like to think that perhaps we at KH blazed a trail. I think there is nothing worse than a Community building all wrapped up in scaffold and portacabins while the the Community who use it get lost in the busy-ness of the work. We are all in this together and hopefully we can all compromise as and when neccesary.

Catch-Up!

Abject apologies! Things have been very busy, with all Church Properties-----and the proper job! However, here is the stuff which has been sitting as a draft---- might as well have it---better late than never. 21:49 on 19 September 2009 Well the sun shone (most of the day)- The organ worked! (thank you Iain) and the Violin duets (Wilson & Jane xx) were a joy as well. 207 people came through the doors and all (bar one) were pleased with what they found. A lovely and characterful building with people inside who work very hard to keep it open for all the rest. I do hope our friends in Bellshill tonight have a good music event as well. Malcolm, our architect spoke informatively about the repair work and I know that people will assume that I'll do as well tomorrow. But for tonight--I'm off to bed. Sunday 20th.September ---- Very early before opening, I hoovered up all the leaves; this morning the Church Service was piped through the speaker system and the sun blazed through the ...

August Garden Parties

At KH there has been a tradition of having a Garden Party (or parties!) to allow members and friends to come together at the appropriate time to carry out essential works in the garden grounds. Yesterday was one of those days, and the rain did stop and the sun did come out! Firstly, many thanks to those who turned out and contributed their time and energy, and special thanks to Ann Shill for the yummy sandwiches. Our youngest labourer took great delight in sowing the seeds of the Wildflower Meadow, showing great interest in the different sizes and colours of seed, while Mum raked and prepared the ground! Office-bound workers enjoyed their blisters (I hope) proof of their hard work - and a chance for my new First Aid Kit to be used. And what was very pleasant was being able to actually do a little proper gardening apart from just the hard work of cutting grass and hedges!
