What a Scorcher!

Who would have thought that it was going to be quite as hot as it was today, and what better place to be than sitting in the garden eating scones and jam. Lots of friends, new and old, came to visit us today and apart from the Cream Teas, there were lots of plants to buy for brightening up West End gardens and Window Boxes. It was also all in a good cause.

Plant Sale ---- and Sun!

KH Plant Sale 2008. It doesn't seem like a year since our last Plant Sale, and the cold snap in Feb and March might have held back some of our efforts at propagation, but we hope to see some of our, now regular customers and some new ones too! For us it seems that the weather is to be kind starting today, Friday and getting better as the days go on. Lo and behold the forecast for Saturday. Day weather: Sunny ------------ Night weather: Clear Sky Max: 22°C 72°F ------------ Min: 11°C 52°F Sunrise: 04:41 ------------ Sunset: 21:48 Wind: SE 12mph ------------ Humidity: 48% Pressure: 1028mB ------------ Visibility: Very good Whoopee! And don't forget the Cream Teas! So see you all on Saturday 30th May 2009 11am until 2pm in the Garden!

Another week,

Oops! Sometimes it must seem that I may be trying to rush things, ----Another wet Bank Holiday does concentrate the mind, as to why we are pushing to complete the repair so quickly. However tomorrow is Tuesday and people should be back at work, another short week but hopefully we managed to accomplish a lot before the Friday Frenzy of the Holiday Weekend set in. Essentially, normally the paperwork is completed in the course of about 6 weeks, we tried for 2!! So; OK maybe 3 then? Onwards and Upwards. We had a visiting Choir from Sweden here on Saturday ---- wonderful sound, even in our Hall , (which does have its own very good acoustic). As it was a relatively still and calm night we took them up the back stairs to visit the Gallery and of course what do singers do when they get there? Sing of course! Impromptu performances, and as we had learned earlier, they were typical Swedish Folk Music. but wonderful to hear, and they were impressed with both the space and the sound. Let's all...

PAPERWORK!

OK! The best laid plans of mice and men and even CofS Fabric Conveners gang aft !!!!!!!!! etc etc. In this year of the Homecoming, Burns I am not! But for the sake of a few words on a piece of paper, and we have waited so long already, what if it goes another few days. See I can be quite philosophical about it! Essentially, in an era of claim and counterclaim and many different pieces of legislation, both Church and National---in fact, even European! It makes sense that we don't start the repair until all the boxes have been ticked, and we have been pushing matters ahead quite swiftly. So what if it takes a few more days. As I write this Blog, letters, e-mails and telephone calls have been moving around and the start is really not so far away now. Roll on tomorrow!

More Work!

So things are getting very busy now. It seems as if everything is all happening at once.------ Maybe it is! It certainly seems like it. I checked the Church late this afternoon and apart from one section down the west wall most of the place was dry. It hardly seems believable that in a weeks time the contractors will be on site. For now the last minute paper-work is concentrating the mind, and tomorrow, the Kirk Session are off on an away- day sampling the delights? of a not-too-distant venue. Hopefully we will all return refreshed and ready for a 20- week programme of repair works.

Great Excitement!

OK! Here is the clarification of the very brisk post late last week. The small 'Children's Windows' are to be repaired and restored. I did feel that it was only fair that the Congregation of KH should hear the news first. and they were delighted by the announcement on Sunday. Here follows the official News Release. The Congregation of Kelvinside Hillhead has been able to restore 6 of the Church windows over the last few years and continues to work towards raising funds to restore this magnificent A-listed place of worship in the heart of Glasgow’s West End. Thanks to a 'doors-open' policy at weekends which the congregation runs, local people and visitors to the city regularly come and look around the church The large Memorial Window which has recently been restored by Stained Glass Design Partnership shows the skilled craftsmanship and capabilities of that team of conservators and artists. Susan Bradbury, of Stained Glass Design Partnership was present last Satu...
