EASTER 2009

So, following a successful run of Holy Week Services, we are once again waiting; waiting to get back into the Church proper and waiting to hear the Good News. It may be a while yet, but we are ever hopeful.
Perhaps some things are going right for us as my Passion Flower and Easter Cactus have both decided to flower ------- at the right time.

There was a slight glitch last week as we had to mop up the floors upstairs following last Friday's heavy rain, also the early April winds had dislodged some slates. Alas! the perils of not being able to fix the roof when we need to.

However I magically managed to find someone willing to deal with the immediate problem on Saturday afternoon and our "Favourite Steeplejacks" were able to finish a proper patching repair on Monday Morning. So now it's full steam ahead for the Teacher Window Re-dedication Service on Saturday 25th April at 11am. Watch this space!
Also we have had an 'Access Audit' carried out and we gained some compliments about our facilities at KH. The chap doing the survey was not initially hopeful-----A listed, Conservation Area etc, etc, however our 'mind-set' and 'can-do' attitude to dealing with the building and people meant that the Fabric Team's Mission statement enabling all to be welcome at KH stood us in good stead. Well done all!

The snow held off this morning and the Contractors were hopeful of taking down 4 'flights' of scaffold before Christmas. however it was deemed too dangerous for that this morning. 'What about the weather vane?' I asked. 'Well we;ll see how it is the afternoon and we've got a back-up with the Steeplejacks if necessary' said Hunter & Clark. Off I went on errands and on my return driving along Queen Margaret Drive I noticed that the scaffold around Oran Mor had been taken down and then I noticed a 'High -vis' figure on top of our Fleche which clothed in its scaffold looks a bit like a pineapple over the roof tops of Grosvenor Terrace. Once it was safe to do so, I of course took photos of Archie and Craig tackling the re-installation of our very own 'Chanticleer' All this was of course whilst the snow was coming down again. Hard! However the Task was successfully accomplished. Thank You both, very much. It is much appreciated by all of us at ...

Re-Dedication Service

The clean-up team have been in this week! Many thanks to them---they know who they are! The Sanctuary is looking much cleaner and shinier now. Final clean-up on Friday! We are all looking forward to the Service on Saturday which Alastair Cherry will conduct, lots of people have said they are able to come and the weather forecast is favourable. One little word, the Church is still technically a Building Site, So please pay heed to the advice of the Stewards and remain on the permitted side of any roped-off areas. Hard Hats will not be neccessary.

Return from the brink?!

Don't do it! It does seem a little strange, but I think this is the second photo of this very hardworking person "up close and personal" with a window. Although the last time we managed to have the window brought down from on high for her close inspection. Whatever, the gist of all this is; that this particular property owned by the Congregation is now ready for a new tenant. As explained during the 'At-Home Sessions' this will be an extra source of income for the Congregation. A lot of work by a lot of people has gone into achieving this, and cleaning the windows on a glorious Autumn afternoon has been just part of it.
