The Promise of more to come--------

Today is the 'Daffodil Tea' with home baking (cream scones?) , music and good company, What more could you ask for?--------Oh! of course! some daffodils! The Church will be open as usual in the afternoon and although the internal scaffold is still in place, the Teacher Memorial Window can be seen shining through. The crystalline effect of some of the glass used, really does show up well in this particular window. All are welcome in this place: Tomorrow the 'pulpit swap' which used to happen amongst the local ministers will take place again after a long recess. Roy Henderson of Lansdowne Church will preach for us at KH and our Locum Archie Roberson will be at Lansdowne. ----------Welcome Roy! The remaining scaffold downtaking is on order for next week. It seems to be that the revealing of the restored window and the rest is being shown to us in small pieces at a time, and it does seem very appropriate that all of this is happening now --- at Lent. Last year we would tal...

Together!

We go forward into another year, still unable to worship within the main Sanctuary, however we still have all of our friends in the Community sharing the halls with us. Some new regular additions and many visitors. The overriding message is that we are in this together! A date for your diaries!----- The Memorial Window Re-Dedication Service will be held on Saturday 25th. April 2009.

Triumph

It's Official! The Teacher Window Restoration is complete. Here is most of the Fabric Team observing the Conservators at work, surrounded by bits of 'our' glass. The pieces in the foreground are the 'roundels' which surround the Christ in Majesty at the very top.-- The Triumph of Sacrifice. So now that part of the Scaffold comes down and all will be able to see for themselves.

The Glass is back!

The Teacher Memorial Window is back in place. The lads are are working on the fittings for the secondary protection and once all of that is in place then the Scaffold can come down. Probably next week for that to happen. Then I need to turn my attention to the Re-Dedication Service. Following a request from our retiring Interim Moderator, I decided to show, yet again a detail from the Teacher Window. This 'little Red Monk' sits to the right of TRUTH and it was only when the high resolution photos were being developed prior to the downtaking, that we noticed the Salamander at his feet. The Salamander was commonly used to depict the triumph of good over evil, due in part to the once held perception that the salamander could survive fire. This picture was taken before the window was cleaned; now, having seen it this week, the detail is so much clearer. This particular part of the detail is not described in the recently discovered "Order of Service and Address" and I like...

Snow! What Snow?

Just when you think things are going with you, something will always turn up to scupper your best laid plans. Firstly please excuse the typing if it goes adrift but my own Central Heating packed up on Friday and a cure (replacement boiler) doesn't look as if it'll happen soon. So back to the 'good' old days, without heat and without running hot water, and sitting at a chilly desk wondering, 'Why Me?' The great boon of the Internet has meant that all of my work clients who couldn't get to their offices, stayed at home and still wanted output from me. No rest for the wicked! At least it's indoor-work this week! So------ the Window might not get finished this week , but what's another week in the great scheme of things? Tomorrow there is a public Meeting in the Library (not large enough if there is a big turn-out) and the talk is about West End Churches at risk. KH has been included but they haven't spoken to me and possibly they haven't read th...

February? Already!

Goodness! February 1st 2009! Homelessness Sunday! Tonight we didn't have our normal Evening Service, as a special service at the Lodging House Mission took its place. Some could say that we have experienced a little of a spiritual homelessness this past year. However the Congregation at KH can now see some of the signs that we may soon get back into the Sanctuary. The Stone Masons and the Glass Restorers have been hard at work this past week and will be back on site tomorrow. The cold bright weather brought more visitors to our door this morning, some were able to share in our Parish Communion Service and others merely wished to visit us; or more correctly the building. Let's hope that the Gospel Message of Goodwill to All was of comfort to them, and that they found us contrite and giving. We can now almost sense that this waiting time is nearly over and we can only pray that the outcome will be what we would wish. As the first signs of Spring break through the hard ground, th...
