November Already!

Firstly;
My apologies to those, who do look to the Blog for regular updates on the Conservation and Repair Work. I did intend to write last week, but the Proper job needed my attention and the Church job also took up such a time that what was left of my week went into sleeping.

So a quick run down of where we are ------

The High Roof has been checked again and our favourite Steeplejacks are scheduled to be out next week. Doing what I hear you ask------Clearing Gutters!!! AGAIN!

There are so many trees around about, that I think we may have to increase the frequency of the gutter-cleaning visits. The trees in the West End are very nice, but they weren't around over a 100 years ago when the parapet gutters were built.

Those of you who get to see inside the building may have wondered about the bare stone walls in parts of the Main hall. This is part and parcel of correcting the damage caused by years of over-flowing gutters. However the stone is drying out nicely and we are seriously minded not to re-plaster; the original walls could be treated and left to show their own natural beauty, with the brickwork parts dressed to match.

Very Avant!
Speaking of changes in Style and Design perception, I wonder how many know where this forgotten window (shown above) is located?

The snow held off this morning and the Contractors were hopeful of taking down 4 'flights' of scaffold before Christmas. however it was deemed too dangerous for that this morning. 'What about the weather vane?' I asked. 'Well we;ll see how it is the afternoon and we've got a back-up with the Steeplejacks if necessary' said Hunter & Clark. Off I went on errands and on my return driving along Queen Margaret Drive I noticed that the scaffold around Oran Mor had been taken down and then I noticed a 'High -vis' figure on top of our Fleche which clothed in its scaffold looks a bit like a pineapple over the roof tops of Grosvenor Terrace. Once it was safe to do so, I of course took photos of Archie and Craig tackling the re-installation of our very own 'Chanticleer' All this was of course whilst the snow was coming down again. Hard! However the Task was successfully accomplished. Thank You both, very much. It is much appreciated by all of us at ...

Re-Dedication Service

The clean-up team have been in this week! Many thanks to them---they know who they are! The Sanctuary is looking much cleaner and shinier now. Final clean-up on Friday! We are all looking forward to the Service on Saturday which Alastair Cherry will conduct, lots of people have said they are able to come and the weather forecast is favourable. One little word, the Church is still technically a Building Site, So please pay heed to the advice of the Stewards and remain on the permitted side of any roped-off areas. Hard Hats will not be neccessary.

Return from the brink?!

Don't do it! It does seem a little strange, but I think this is the second photo of this very hardworking person "up close and personal" with a window. Although the last time we managed to have the window brought down from on high for her close inspection. Whatever, the gist of all this is; that this particular property owned by the Congregation is now ready for a new tenant. As explained during the 'At-Home Sessions' this will be an extra source of income for the Congregation. A lot of work by a lot of people has gone into achieving this, and cleaning the windows on a glorious Autumn afternoon has been just part of it.
