Advent!

A time of waiting! Tomorrow the colour of the Pulpit Fall changes to Purple. Advent and St Andrew's Day! For our Evening Service a group of us will read aloud the Gospel of Luke together with Prayers and Poems; telling the story of the coming of our Lord. All are Welcome to join us. Because of the current Repair situation, we are not going to be in the Main Church, instead all of our Services and activities will take place in the Hall and New Session Room. But wherever we are, we will still watch and wait -------- for many things.

Gutters !

As a Fabric Convenor, one of the first things I was told at a Property Maintenance Course, was to look after your Gutters and Downpipes. All very well and good! But on KH the Gutters are very high up and the Downpipes stretch for a very long way-------- Good intentions mean that our favourite Steeplejacks have been out today, clearing away the debris again! It does almost seem ridiculous that, because the roof needs repairs we are in the situation where we need to increase our maintenance to such a degree. With any luck, that is all of the leaves off the trees now. Just a word about the works in the main Entrance Hall. The stone is drying out nicely and the rotten parts have been removed. The roof is one of the main things exercising our minds but , we still have all of the normal property issues to deal with:--- such as keeping the heaters in all of the various parts of the building working; replacing obsolete equipment in the kitchen. (We do hope to have a new cooker installed soon, ...

Past Ministers

So as I have acquired this photo, I thought I would share it with you. I think there may be some clue here, as to how the early congregation of KH kept warm. (Well the Gentlemen at least!)

Still in good heart.

There have been many times over the last few months when it has seemed that we at KH have undertaken an almost hopeless task. It is now 10 months since the Storm which started this train of events, and another winter approaches. The roof is still not fixed, the window is out and the entrance hall has had plaster removed. ----- But that could actually be a good thing. It shows that we are still here and progressing our planned course of repairs. The funding is difficult, especially now with the "Credit Crunch" and "Economic downturn", but we never did think it would be easy. I attended an event this evening to celebrate 20 years of assisted living in Glasgow. One of the residents of the House in question reminded me that the idea of the big windows in"my Church" was to "let more of God's Colours Shine!" So true! So I think we just have to realise how fortunate, we as a congregation have been, to have had the "big windows" to our...

November Already!

Firstly; My apologies to those, who do look to the Blog for regular updates on the Conservation and Repair Work. I did intend to write last week, but the Proper job needed my attention and the Church job also took up such a time that what was left of my week went into sleeping. So a quick run down of where we are ------ The High Roof has been checked again and our favourite Steeplejacks are scheduled to be out next week. Doing what I hear you ask------Clearing Gutters!!! AGAIN! There are so many trees around about, that I think we may have to increase the frequency of the gutter-cleaning visits. The trees in the West End are very nice, but they weren't around over a 100 years ago when the parapet gutters were built. Those of you who get to see inside the building may have wondered about the bare stone walls in parts of the Main hall. This is part and parcel of correcting the damage caused by years of over-flowing gutters. However the stone is drying out nicely and we are seriously ...
