Abject apologies! Things have been very busy, with all Church Properties-----and the proper job! However, here is the stuff which has been sitting as a draft---- might as well have it---better late than never. 21:49 on 19 September 2009 Well the sun shone (most of the day)- The organ worked! (thank you Iain) and the Violin duets (Wilson & Jane xx) were a joy as well. 207 people came through the doors and all (bar one) were pleased with what they found. A lovely and characterful building with people inside who work very hard to keep it open for all the rest. I do hope our friends in Bellshill tonight have a good music event as well. Malcolm, our architect spoke informatively about the repair work and I know that people will assume that I'll do as well tomorrow. But for tonight--I'm off to bed. Wow. --- 325 people came to see us this weekend. The weather was kind as were the comments from our visitors. Once again many were first time visitors, but there were also some who returned this year especially to see the windows. Most people stayed for a while, either just to enjoy the building or the music or both. I'll report further later on or early tomorrow, but right now bed beckons. Good Night.

Glasgow Open Doors Weekend 2009 As part of Glasgow Open Doors Weekend 2009, Kelvinside Hillhead Parish Church will be hosting a Special Presentation/Talk, taking place at 12noon and 14:00hrs on Saturday 19th. September 2009 ------- The Impact of Outside Elements – Malcolm Mitchell of Page \ Park Architects will talk about the listed structure of this iconic West End church weakened by outside elements, and about the strengthening works required to secure its future. The Congregation is very pleased that Malcolm is giving up one of his free Saturdays, in order to share his conservation experience with us. Then on the Sunday the Sanctuary will again be open from 10:00hrs ‘til 16:00 hrs. Church Service is at 11am in the Downstairs Hall. From 13:00 Dr Iain Galbraith will give recitals on the ‘Father Willis’ Organ.

The sun was still shining when I visited the Church today; where was the heavy rain that was forecast? Fochabers! that's where, and I hope my friends up there are all Ok. There is some beautiful Burne-Jones Stained Glass in the Gordon Chapel up there. Anyway back to KH; The floors and the cupboard in the hall were being replaced today. No more backrest for the Choir on Sundays. Nor a place for extra notices, however the work upstairs is moving on apace. Today was also the last day at KH for two of the Hunter & Clark workers: Charlie who retires after 30 years with H&C and Paul who has finished his part of the project; setting all the concrete lintels in mortar, and he also proved to be a very useful pair of hands or perhaps more correctly shoulders up in the roof space. I'm not sure exactly what he was doing up there today, but he seemed to to have brought down a goodly amount of soot on his face and clothes. A year has gone by since I started this Blog. I sincerely hope that it is still fulfilling our aim to inform, in a fairly simple way, as to the progress of the Building repairs. The last week especially has shown probably the greatest change in the status of the project. The Mega Shores which have been with us since March 2008 have been removed and are due to leave site completely this week. ((The rest of the scaffolding will be with us for a while yet.) The Contractors are very busy up in the attic, where it is very warm, in cramped and very tricky working conditions. They are making good progress, and the latest steel templates have arrived on site. The steel shoes are being made off-site, so that there is no "hot-work" taking place up in the roof space. My attention is frequently taken up with just looking at all that is going on around us.
